A GARDENING GUIDE FOR HOME AND TERRACE

Terrace Plantings

Additional information more particular to terrace gardening (more to be added).

Be mindful of the rules of your building (are these complex-wide?), largely related to safety and to consideration of your neighbors:

  • No hanging baskeds. Indeed no drilling into walls or ceiling of terrace.
  • Window boxes are ok, but must hang inside not outside the railings
  • No umbrellas to shade the plants from sun

For information on wildlife visitors to your terrace , birds and animals (which you may want to encourage or discourage), see the section Problems & Solutions

For a starter list of plants that do well on terraces, see Plant Selection - Terraces..  And for a discussion of the criteria on which to base your selection see Plant Selection Criteria.

For tips on plant survival through the winter, see the Seasonal Calendar
